Discovering DFW's Newest Culinary Gems

Jan 30, 2025

Hello, DFW food enthusiasts!

As the Director of Operations at On The Move DFW, I love exploring our vibrant metroplex and sharing the latest happenings with you. This week, let's dive into some unique and exciting restaurants that have recently opened or are making waves in our area.

Kafi BBQ in Irving

Opened in December 2024, Kafi BBQ offers a distinctive dining experience by serving halal-certified barbecue. Owner Salahodeen Abdul-Kafi, a former tech engineer, spent five years perfecting his brisket rub and barbecue sauce. The restaurant specializes in high-quality wagyu beef sourced directly from Texas's Wagyu X Ranch and imports from New Zealand to ensure the highest halal standards. Since its opening, Kafi BBQ has garnered significant attention, often selling out on weekends before closing time.

FB Society's Innovative Concepts

Formerly known as Front Burner, FB Society has been instrumental in transforming suburban dining with unique concepts that often expand into successful chains. Their creations include Velvet Taco, Twin Peaks, Whiskey Cake, and Sixty Vines. Each restaurant offers a distinct identity and a commitment to using local ingredients, providing a variety of dining experiences across the metroplex.

James Beard Award Semifinalists in DFW

The 2025 James Beard Award semifinalists have been announced, highlighting several DFW establishments. Apothecary received a nomination for Outstanding Bar, and Bar Colette earned a nod for Best New Bar. Additionally, Doña Maria in Irving, known for its Dominican cuisine, was unexpectedly nominated. These recognitions showcase the diverse and evolving culinary scene in our area.
